Test Case: Change brightness Categories: Desktop, KDE, Brightness Requirements: KDE Installation, a Laptop with a working/supported brightness interface Depends On: Action: ============================ Start KDE as normal user, check if KPowersave is running (check for the KPowersave icon in the taskbar, or "ps aux | grep KPowersave"). 1) Call lshal and check for 'org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.LaptopPanel.method'. Without this KPowersave is not able to change the brightness, which isn't a bug in KPowersave. Click with the left mouse button on the KPowersave applet icon in the task bar. Check in the 'KPowersave Information Dialog' the 'Miscellaneous' section if there is 'Set brightness supported: yes'. Close the dialog. 2) If you have a mouse which has a scroll wheel: go with the mouse cursor over the KPowersave applet icon in the taskbar and scroll the weel. The brightness should change. 3) If you have no mouse with scroll wheel available: click with the right mouse/touchpad button on the applet icon, select 'Configure KPowersave ...', in the configure dialog select the performance scheme (it should be selected automatically if you are not on battery). Click on 'Brightness' page of the toolbox, change the slider in this part of the dialog to change the brightness. Expected Results: ============================ 1) If lshal tells you that brightness changes are supported, but the 'KPowersave Information Dialog' says 'Set brightness supported: no' it's a bug 2) If you scroll the weel the brightness should change. In one direction the brightness should change to a lower and in the other direction it should change to a higher brightness level 3) If you move the slider the display brightness should change accordingly
